Product Details

Amsterdam as it might have looked 750 years ago.

A dam had been built in the Amstel river a couple of years ago and people lived on the higher grounds on both sides - farmers, fishermen, craftsmen, traders. A dike, going from Velsen to Muiderberg, protected them from the tide in the Zuiderzee. No stone, no pavement. A muddy place.

A map like this has never been drawn. I based it on the available research (which isn't a lot) and my own fantasy.

The perspective follows the oldest painting of Amsterdam by Cornelis Anthonisz 'Gezicht op Amsterdam in Vogelvlucht'.

Signed high quality print, 50x50 cm.

Printed on demand - which takes some time. In a hurry? Want it bigger? Get in touch!
